THE PROJECT

The challenge of promoting civic engagement, co-production, and information sharing.

Lupa NH aims to elaborate an interdisciplinary theoretical framework and experimental project, through connected digital technologies, with the creation and use of an application developed for mobile devices, establishing the configuration of a communication and deliberation environment for the formation of hyperlocal social intelligence.

The project seeks both collaborations in the insertion of hyperlocal data and the production of journalistic content with a civic/citizen bias by students, residents, and frequenters of the Novo Horizonte community region in Macapá (AP), amazon rainforest. These agents supply local databases through a customized application, enabling the creation of datasets with structured information about the infrastructure conditions of the neighborhood (asphalt, sanitation, water, electricity, garbage collection). The institution of a participatory environment through connected communication technologies provides “power” to the community, influencing local decision-making in a collaborative way, civic engagement, and co-production.

ABOUT

The union of technology with collaborative data bringing more power to the community.

Lupa NH is an experimental project that aims to elaborate an interdisciplinary theoretical framework and, through connected digital technologies, to create and use an application for mobile devices, establishing the configuration of a communication and deliberation environment for the formation of hyperlocal social intelligence.

The project has already consolidated the conceptual framework phase and developed the LUPA NH Application, version 1.0, carrying out the pilot application with students and teachers at the State School Raimunda dos Passos Santos in the insertion of geolocation data about the infrastructure of the Novo Horizonte community region. It also produced workshops directed to the students of the disciplines Fundamentals of Journalism, Journalistic Writing, Photojournalism, Broadcast journalism, Telejournalism, and Media Convergence, stimulating the production of content based on the collected data.

The institution of a participatory environment through connected communication technologies provides "power" to the community, influencing local decision-making in a collaborative way, civic engagement, and co-production.

Currently, the project is in the technological evolution phase of the LUPA NH Application (Version 2.0) so that it can incorporate other future functionalities, such as computational intelligence, and is waiting for the return of the presential activities at the State School Raimunda dos Passos Santos to start the activities of data insertion and content production by the students of the School.

The project is interlinked with the project “Hyperlocal Journalism via application Lupa NH 2.0”, approved in the CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT Nº 18/2021 – UNIVERSAL call, but only got ¼ of the necessary funding for the good progress of the desired planning.
